“Lilith and Olaf”, the world largest outdoor mural painting, was created by the French artists Ella & Pitr during the 15th edition of Nuart Festival in Stavager, Norway.
If you will ever want to visit Stavanger and your plane will land or depart from the local airport, then you will probably have a “huge” surprise. Through the little window you will be greeted by Lilith and Olaf, an immense mural squat on the building ceiling of a local company.

Once the plane will fly up towards the sky, the image covering around 21,000 square meters will become clearer, revealing a monochromatic girl dressed with shorts and a tank top. Then the red-painted toenails will be visible; and so will a little colored men falling from her hand. The figure is called Olaf, a representation of king Olaf I of Norway who ruled between 995 and 1000. It is believed that he was born on an islet in Frøylandsvatnet, a lake situated near the building.
The remarkable work of art was finished in only 4 days by Ella and Pitr with the help of many volunteers. The two French artists created “Lilith and Olaf” for the inauguration of the 15th Anniversary of Stavanger’s Nuart Festival.
According to Martyn Reed, founder and director of the festival, Nuart is “an annual independent international contemporary street and urban art festival established in 2001. The Nuart Festival follows the ethos behind the Nu teams desire to provide an annual platform for national and international artists who operate outside of traditional systems. Outsiders if you like”
The exact place where you will find it is a small municipality called Klepp, very close to Stavanger City. So if you like to do skydiving or paragliding in Norway, this is definitely one of the best places to try an air-art experience.
