Designed for extreme weather conditions, this aluminum&timber alpine retreat is located on the edge of Mount Kanin in Slovenia. The tiny shelter was envisioned by Slovenian studio OFIS Arhitekti and implemented by structural engineers CBD  for the adventurous climbers in the region.

“This particular site was chosen because of its 360-degree views over Slovenia and Italy, and spectacular views to Triglav, Soca Valley and Adriatic sea,” the architects explained. “It will become a destination for hikers, climbers, cavers, mountaineers, nature lovers and romantics.”

The precarious modern hut has a total area of 9,7 square meters and accommodates three shelf-like floors, which ‘guests’ can occupy tucked in their sleeping bags. A large window faces the valley, offering spectacular views for the part-time inhabitants. Up to nine climbers can sleep inside every night.

Due to bad weather conditions, it took the Slovene Armed Forces helicopter three attempts to finally “deliver the nest” in its rocky landscape. Various cables keep the structure tight and secure.
